Class Overview

Chapter 1

Getting Started

In Chapter 1 of Virtual Reality for Industrial Designers, Nicholas guides you through his personal preferences for VR headsets, controllers and the physical space around you. You’ll also be shown Nick’s preferences for his virtual space within Gravity Sketch, as well as an overview of his most commonly used tools.

Chapter 2

Ideating and Iterating

In this chapter Nicholas will discuss and demonstrate how to be creative and explore ideas in VR, how to utilise the tool set within Gravity Sketch to create design concepts, and how to expand on those concepts by bringing together different elements of your sketch to create new ideas.

Chapter 3

Refining Concepts

In Chapter 3 Nicholas will discuss using reference models and the measuring tool to take your concepts to the next step by ensuring that your scale and measurements are correct. Using textures, as well as creating your own textures, will also be demonstrated to increase the quality of your sketch.

Chapter 4

Presenting with VR

In this next chapter Nicholas will discuss his process for organising and selecting concepts and preparing sketches for screenshots. Nick will also cover exporting your models to Keyshot, sharing concepts with your clients or team and video recording Gravity Sketch.

Chapter 5

Evaluating with VR

In chapter 5, Nicholas will discuss how to use VR to review your concepts. By using mixed reality and 1:1 scale, along with 3D printing, Nick will demonstrate his process for validating and evaluating his ideas.
